Prospect Party's

Have a Names Party
If your Chapter has not had any luck with the "OK, everyone bring prospect names to the next meeting" approach, you might want to consider having a Names Party. Invite chapter members, Job’s Daughters, Rainbow, and friends to a summer party with music, movies, food, and fun. Admission price to the party? Two names of prospects with addresses and phone numbers! Chapters who have held Names Parties have gained 20 - 50 prospects and it’s fun!

Send Letters to Prospects and Parents
Whether you are holding a formal or informal prospect party, it’s important to communicate with prospects and their parents. Letters provide an opportunity to promote DeMolay and give them the Prospect Party details. Send letters to parents first, then the letter to the prospects.

Make Phone Calls
Phone calls to prospects are crucial! Many times, it is the personal contact of a phone call that convinces the prospect to attend. It is important to be up-beat and positive. The "gift of gab" helps in making the prospect feel wanted. Role play with other members to practice calls.

Make sure the program is first class!
Whatever activity you choose as a Prospect Party, a social activity or formal information meeting, it must be planned well. Chapter members should be the obvious leaders of the activity.

Have good refreshments afterwards.
The food served at the events should be food that teenagers like. Pizza is a good choice. It’s quick, it’s easy, and teenagers love it!

Degree Nights

Call the Candidates the day before the Initiation
All potential candidates should definitely be called by the night before the Initiation. During the call, remind them of the Initiation, what to wear, and that their parents can attend. Make sure they have transportation.

Have an Orientation Program for candidates and parents
The candidates and parents should arrive about thirty minutes before the degree is scheduled to begin. Have an experienced Advisor or older member talk with the candidates and parents to explain what will happen during the Initiation and give them some information about the organization they are joining.

Start on time!

Make sure the ritual is first class!
All ritual performed during the degrees should be done from memory and the performer should be dressed well. Don't settle for less! You owe it to the candidates!

Do something fun and exciting soon after the Initiation
It is important to do something that is fun after the Initiation. If not on the night of the degree, sometime soon after.
